HVP Nepal-UK Virtual Festival 2021: Postponed
We are sad to inform supporters that our HVP-Nepal UK Virtual Festival event, due to take place on Saturday 15th May 2021, has now been postponed.
We are sure many of you have seen the distressing images from India as it grapples with a resurgence of Covid which is devastating the country. Worryingly, neighbouring Nepal has not remained untouched, and the virus continues to spread with growing numbers of infections each day. As part of control measures, all schools in Nepal have again been ordered to close.
With HVP schools in Kathmandu, Thali and Dang now closed, and students and staff residing at home, our ability to continue with the event is limited and we have taken the decision to postpone the occasion. This is a great disappointment to all of us within the HVP Community and to supporters across the globe who were planning to come together for this unique celebration.
The good news is that plans are underway to host our Virtual Festival event later in the year. Please watch this space as we will update you as soon as we have a confirmed date and details.
Our huge thanks go out to those who have purchased tickets in support of HVP Nepal-UK. Please be assured your ticket will remain valid for the rescheduled event. Should you prefer your donation to be refunded please get in touch at hvpnuk@gmail.com.
In the meantime, our thoughts are very much with our friends in Nepal. These remain challenging times for the HVP schools. Further lockdowns not only impact upon children’s learning but also mean very little in the way of fees coming in, which in turn threatens the long-term viability of the schools. Funds raised by HVPN-UK have to date ensured that teachers have at least been paid 50% of their usual salary and our hope is that we can continue to support them in this way.
